Quasar – A Kinetic Sculpture for Tranquil Spaces

Quasar is one of the larger pieces in my collection of nearly 20 kinetic sculptures, and it’s designed to make a bold yet calming statement. Measuring almost 3 ½ feet wide, it’s the perfect choice if you’re looking to fill a large wall with something that’s not just art—but an experience.

Unlike some of my smaller, more energetic sculptures, Quasar moves with a slow, steady rhythm. Its gentle rotation brings a sense of serenity to any room, making it ideal for spaces where you want to unwind and let your mind drift.

To keep the design clean and modern, I’ve minimized the frame, allowing the pattern wheels to truly stand out. They appear to float effortlessly on the wall, creating a mesmerizing focal point that’s both elegant and understated.

One of Quasar’s standout features is its adjustable winding pulley. You can place it anywhere below the pattern wheels to suit your aesthetic—giving you a level of visual customization that’s both functional and fun.

When it comes to materials, I’ve taken extra care to choose quality over compromise. Instead of the typical wooden ratchet wheels found in lower-end pieces, Quasar uses polished brass pins for a touch of refinement and reliable performance. It’s powered by a stainless steel constant force spring that delivers motion via a durable steel spring belt—no rubber here, so you don’t have to worry about wear and tear over time.

Winding it up is easy and oddly satisfying: just place your index finger on the pulley’s spoke and turn it counterclockwise about 22 times. Once released, the spring gives the first push, setting the wheels into a graceful dance. As the motion gradually slows, the mechanism re-engages, sending another gentle pulse of energy to keep everything flowing.
